Director of AVCO Dental Delhi arrested by CBI for illegal sale of dental products for armed forces

When the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last week busted an alleged criminal conspiracy involving the sale of dental products meant for armed forces to a private company, agency sleuths had stumbled upon hundreds of false teeth also known as dentures.

While the CBI probe was specifically probing the sale of 90 kits of Glas Ionomer Cement (GIC) to one Seth, the dentures pointed out to larger conspiracy involving at least one official working at the Armed Forces Medical Store Depot (AFMSD) and businesses which might be based out of India.

The probe agency, according to official sources, might now be sitting on a larger conspiracy involving illegal export, of dental products.

Skeletons started tumbling out after CBI received information that Hawaldar P Sridhar, who was working as the store in charge at Armed Forces Medical Store Depot (AFMSD) in Delhi Cantonment was allegedly involved in the sales of dental products.

In a classic trap case, CBI intercepted Sridhar's movement and when he was entering his residence in south Delhi with a trolley. Sridhar allegedly caved in after a couple of questions and spilled the beans on the illegal sale of GIC to Rajiv Seth, director of Delhi-based private firm, AVCO Consultancy Service Private Limited. Subsequently, both were arrested but the scale of operation was not yet known.

Sources privy to the investigation told DNA that agency sleuths who raided at Sridhar's residence in Delhi said that his home looked like a "dental college," owing to the number of dental products stored there.

"Our investigators complied a list of all the dental products and we will be ascertaining whether officials at AFMSD were selling the products to any other private organisations," an official said, adding that Seth's firm too turned out to be bigger than what was initially being believed .

"The credit for making Avco a leading distributor of dental products in India goes entirely to Rajiv Seth for his honest hard work over the thirty years,"the website reads.

When asked if names of any other companies have cropped up during the investigation, CBI officials maintained, "The FIR is registered against Mr Sridhar, Mr Seth. We are ascertaining if there are other individuals or companies involved."
